COMRADE ANIEKPENO FRANCIS SOLOMON SUG PRESIDENT-ELECT AKWA IBOM STATE UNIVERSITY 9th Feb., 2018. The Co-ordinator National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone B Comrade Godson Okereke C. NANS Secretariat, Students Union Government Building Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Imo State.
Sir, FUNDAMENTAL BREACH OF MY RIGHT TO BE SWORN-IN AS THE ELECTED STUDENT UNION PRESIDENT OF AKSU: A CALL FOR RESTITUTION Few days to the holding of the NANS Zone B convention, I went to Bayelsa, during which the said convention was held, and as a stakeholder from my school, I felt the need to go there and observe the convention, taking cognizance of the fact that I was to be sworn in as the SUG President.
In the course of exchanging pleasantries with my friends from Akwa Ibom State University, one Tom Aniekeme Samuel (aka) Tommywa from Obio Akpa campus in company of other boys from the same campus seriously assaulted me and in the process dispossessed me of my personal effects viz: a wrist watch, a Tecno mobile phone, the sum of Fifty Thousand, Sixty Naira (N50,060.00) and my student’s identity card.
When I asked them why I was so assaulted, they told me in clear terms that they have a directive from above to treat me in the manner they did, and as a peace-loving person and moreover as the President-elect, I never thought it too wise to lodge criminal report against my fellow students who had massively given me their votes, thus I allowed the sleeping dog to lie.
I was stunned to be informed for the first time by the Tribunal Sitting members presided over by Prof. I. O. Isaac, said to be set-up by my university, that I was found with a “forged Student’s Union Identity Card with inscription 001 Students’ Union President, Akwa Ibom State University, signed by the former Registrar”.
Having been told that the tribunal was set-up to make findings on the authenticity or otherwise of the allegations leveled against me, I respectfully commenced explaining what happened sequentially as above stated, but I was abruptly interrupted because all the members wanted me to admit that I had the said forged ID card on me; a fact that was strange to me as I had no need to forge an ID card since I was to be issued with an SUG ID card upon my swearing in which I was highly expectant of.
It was when my swearing in was delayed without any reason to justify the delay, and the subsequent unlawful swearing in of the so-called “President” that I got to understand the information passed to me by the said students when I was assaulted at the convention ground “that they were sent from above to assault me”.
Sir, as a peace loving citizen of Nigeria, I appealed to my supporters not to take laws into their hands while exploring legitimate ways to ensure that the mandate given to me by the greater number of students is restored.
I hereby appeal to you to use your good offices to call on the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eno Ibanga whom I know is an impartial father to all, to do the needful:
• That I should be sworn-in as the legitimate Students’ Union President.
• That the illegally sworn-in “president” should stop forthwith from parading himself as the union president.
• That all statutory rights accruable to my office be restored.
• That all victimization and intimidation by the agents of the university management should stop forthwith.
I have learnt from the grapevine that the University management has concluded plans to suspend my studentship for one academic session for an allegation fabricated from a source only known to the University management.
Assuming this piece of information is taken for whatever it is worth, I hereby with respect use this medium to request that the school authorities or management be called upon to restrain itself, its agents and privies from doing what is absolutely needless, unnecessary and diversionary as I am not a ghost that cannot be found and/or confronted in a civilized manner to defend myself in an organized platform; a right which I am constitutionally entitled to.
Sir, I hereby appeal to you to use your good offices to address these acts of injustice. Yours in the Revolutionary Struggle, Comrade Aniekpeno Francis Solomon SUG President-Elect Akwa Ibom State University. 09073418379
